TROWBRIDGE & DISTRICT LEAGUE DIVISION THREE: Brave Polenez unable to stop the Lamb
3:30pm Monday 20th February 2012
IT WAS top versus bottom at Stallards Playing Field where Division Three leaders The Lamb welcomed an ever-improving Polenez Westbury outfit who once again showed that their recent turnaround in form has been no fluke.
Polenez may have lost their latest game 4-1, but Lamb’s manager Richard Stevens was full of praise for the visitors who made his team work really hard for their three points which keeps them in the driving seat in the race for the title.
Lamb led through a Kieran Fereday effort which deflected in of a Polenez defender.
Mirostaw Uszpelkat restored parity for Polenez and only some excellent defending from the Lamb denied Polenez a half-time lead.
A second goal from Fereday which also took a deflection of a defender saw Lamb regain the lead early in the second half.
Lamb then made a couple of tactical changes bring on 16 year old Nathan Hallett and Steve Coveney for his season’s debut and the changes seemed to work as not long after Lamb gained a two-goal cushion, Sam Stevens scoring to make it 3-1.
Lamb sealed their 14th straight win when Nathan Hallett completed the scoring with the goal of the game with a bullet header that left the Polenez keeper with no chance of stopping.
United FC 3 Westwood Social Club 1
UNITED FC may have been short of a number of players for the visit of Westwood Social Club, but the players manager Iljaz Illazi had at his disposal rose to the occasion as they helped their side to a 3-1 triumph.
United opened the scoring through Agim Illazi and they doubled their lead courtesy of a well-taken goal from Mariuz Zaboroski.
The second half was similar to the first with United missing many chances before Jozef Zapotoczny scored their third.
United then started to push forward looking for more goals but they paid the price and got caught out at the back with Jason Povey scoring his first Westwood goal.
Melksham Town A 4 The Stiffs 1
MELKSHAM Town A maintained their recent upturn in form as their 4-1 win over The Stiffs saw them stretch their run of league victories to five matches.
That started with a 7-2 success at the Stiffs in early November and the win also saw them leapfrog an inactive Westbury Town to take over second place.
Leigh Rogers scored a first-half double for Melksham with Sean Meer scoring both goals in the second half that gave them a 4-0 lead before Simeon Player netted the Stiffs consolation.
